Golem is a beach resort on the coast south of Durrës, in the municipality of Kavajë, with a long, shallow sandy beach. The strip along the sea is lined with hotels and apartment buildings, many of them fairly recent, and neighbouring Mali i Robit continues it to the south.
Almost all demand is linked to summer: buyers are often families from Tirana or from abroad looking for a holiday apartment, and many owners let by the week or the night in July and August. Out of season many buildings are quiet and some services close. Long-term rentals exist, but the choice is limited. Durrës, a few kilometres to the north, has shops, schools and hospitals all year, and Tirana is within daily driving distance.

Long-term rentals in Golem are limited, as most owners let their apartments in summer. Out of season some offer longer leases; agree on the dates and the price in writing. Winter tenants often work in Durrës or Tirana and commute by car.
